I am currently a college professor teaching economics and finance and I recognize the educational value of Kalshi's election contracts in illustrating economic principles and market dynamics to students. These contracts could provide real-world examples of how financial markets can predict and hedge against political risks, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills among future economists and policymakers. The CFTC's decision to restrict these markets limits educational opportunities and deprives students of practical learning experiences in market behavior, risk management, and policy analysis. By extending the comment period by another 60 days, educators would have more time to advocate for the inclusion of these markets as educational tools that prepare students for careers in economics, finance, and public policy. This is crucial for ensuring that regulatory decisions support academic innovation and empower educators to provide a comprehensive and relevant curriculum that meets the needs of a dynamic and evolving global economy.
