To permit gambling on election results invites attempts to unduly influence the results of those elections, including by financial donations, legal or illegal, to election campaigns. It's vitally important that the results of elections accurately reflect the preferences and judgments of voters. And it's important that there be no other influence at work skewing the results of elections. It has become increasingly difficult to protect elections from such extraneous influences. To permit gambling on election results would make this even more difficult. In effect, it would tend to corrupt the election process, at a time when attempts to suppress votes is threatening the very fabric of our democracy.
