I urge the CFTC to reject Kalshi's proposal to allow gambling on the outcome of US elections. Such a scheme would threaten the integrity of our democracy and our elections. It could lead to disinformation campaigns and election interference. Those betting on elections would have incentives to attempt to sway the outcome of the elections, such as by spreading misleading information and donating large sums of money to organizations such as super-PACs. Allowing betting on elections would magnify the influence of money in politics.
