I am urging the CFTC to say no to election gambling.
There are many dangers of election gambling and many reasons why it goes against the public interest. Two of these reasons are disinformation and big money influence on our democracy.
First of all, allowing this proposal will undermine the integrity of our elections and our democracy. There is one person, one vote for a reason and that principle is a democratic bedrock. It will also reduce voter confidence and lead to perceptions that election outcomes are not determined solely by voters' choices, but also by those who bet on election results.
Secondly, betting on elections will create strong financial incentives for special interests to manipulate and interfere in our elections.
Finally, allowing this proposal would put personal gain ahead of public interest.
