Betting on election outcomes sounds like fun. And if it were limited to penny ante, it could be. But if the amounts at stake exceed the cost of the election campaign, it would jeopardize the integrity of our political system. Deep-pocketed gamblers could make money by finding contests with long odds, funding irresponsible publicity, and leaving communities stuck with officials they would not have chosen on their own. Please don’t let that happen.
