Elections are a civic responsibility, not sporting events. I implore you to treat them with dignity they deserve and not approve the proposal to allow election gambling for the following reasons:
- It will undermine the integrity of our elections and our democracy.
- It will create strong financial incentives for special interests to manipulate and interfere in our elections.
- It will reduce voter confidence, and lead to a perception that election outcomes are not solely determined by voters’ choices, but also by those who bet on election results.
- It will put personal gain ahead of the public interest.
