Who in their right mind would think gambling on elections would be a good thing? We've already seen that some groups believe insurrection is a legitimate way to influence the outcome of elections. How much further would some people go if they have a financial gain or loss directly tied to the results of elections? Allowing gambling on elections is a bad idea that should never have been considered in the first place.
