I have become aware of an application by a firm called Kalshi, one of whose principals lives in my home city, who want to enable betting on US elections. I can’t imagine a more destructive way to undermine electoral integrity. Citizens already distrust the electoral process and dispute results of elections, and knowing that a wealthy group of insiders is trading in election results will only exacerbate that perception. The fact that many of the proponents of this scheme are former CFTC officials is disgusting and disappointing. Please do not approve this application. I can’t think of a more effective way to further divide and then break this country.
