This country has a lot of problems with our political system and we need to do all we can to strengthen the system. It is important to convince the public that they can trust our election systems which, historically, have been very well run. The possibility of allowing betting on elections is very disturbing. It does not promote trust in our election systems and may well do the opposite. Even if the betting system is well run, it inserts an issue into elections that could cause all sorts of problems. The only upside I can see is for those running the betting to make money and that is not anywhere close to making it worth it to the rest of us.
