I cannot imagine why any consideration would be given to approving the proposal to allow betting on elections. In addition to undermining our democracy, it would:
1. create strong financial incentives for special interests to manipulate our elections;
2. reduce voter confidence due to perception that those who bet on elections, rather than voters, determine election outcomes;
3. put personal gain before the public interest; and
4. undermine the principal of one person, one vote.
Please do not allow this proposal to come to fruition.
