Allowing people to bet on election results is also fundamentally opposed to a well-functioning democracy. It promotes a team spectator sport mentality where people are more concerned with their side winning at any cost than learning about policy and engaging with their community for the greater good.
It would be possible for some organizations to use dark money to sway elections (we know that anything possible may well happen).
We have enough trouble with artificial intelligence (good and bad) that can be cleverly used to sway elections and become a tool of those who are doing the betting.
