There is nothing right or good about implementing a system for betting on elections. It is simplistic and wrong to believe that such a system would be without consequences significantly detrimental to our democratic republic. Hopefully there is not another species in the entire universe that would be moved to do such a thing. Humans continue to aim low and descend beneath their malign aspirations. Anything for another buck. "Screw the electorate" is the theme behind this abomination. As if there isn't enough going on these days to degrade the electoral process and threaten our democracy.
There is no justifiable requirement or rationale to allow such system of betting. It would encourage the direct infusion of illegal funds to influence the outcomes of elections. It would substantially increase the flow of disinformantion to our already dis- un- mis- and mal-informed voting public. The behavior of elected officials seeking to retain power would be terribly influenced by the system to engage in all kinds of illegal moves.
Please. Come to your senses. A big NO to moving forward with this horrendous concept.
