Allowing people to bet on election results is fundamentally opposed to a well-functioning democracy. It promotes a team spectator sport mentality where people are more concerned with their side winning at any cost than learning about policy and engaging with their community for the greater good.
Gambling on election results can also promote the corruption of our election officials, especially at a time when our country is already experiencing high levels of distrust in our elections. This is a horrible idea that will only ensure that our elections become less secure and more susceptible to fraud, mistrust, and divisive attacks.
