    Comment Text:

I'm concerned that allowing betting on election outcomes could lead malefactors to interfere in elections. An example would be to spread misinformation on social media to denigrate a candidate whom the malefactor has bet against. This can be magnified by using generative AI like ChatGTP and its competitors.

Heavy use of misinformation in elections has been with us since the early years of American democracy. Computer technology is making the problem worse and worse. I understand that it will occur whether or not we forbid election betting, but it seems likely to be worse if we allow gambling on elections. I don't see any benefit to allowing it. Is there any good that could come out of it? It won't enable poor people to live better and in fact, like other kinds of gambling, is more likely to make people poorer.

    Thank you.
