    Comment Text:

When I was growing up, I couldn't wait to reach the age of 21 so I could vote. I was so enthusiastic about gaining this right of full citizenship. And I want you to know that I have voted regularly ever since. That's why I am thoroughly dismayed at hearing about a proposal to allow betting on public elections.

Allowing betting on public elections is an ugly, disgusting, outrageous proposal. Voting in elections is a solemn duty of citizenship, not a game. Betting on elections will trivialize them and make them subject to possible manipulation in order to win money. Whoever came up with this asinine idea should be ashamed of themselves. I'd fire them without delay.

I wonder what our nation's founders would think of this idea. Don't do it! It would be the ultimate triumph of money over the public good.
