It occurs to me that public, CFTC committee meetings (TAC, MRAC, etc) should make it a new practice to take questions from the floor. It's been my experience that the general brain trust seated in the audience at these events could only enhance and strengthen the comment and intel and analysis process that these committee meetings are designed to collect. I don't envision the "press conference, shout-out at will" process would much serve this sort of event (though I am partial to the process) but rather, accepting questions written down on cards (or some such) and collected, passed up to the head table and verbally asked by the chairman or moderator.
I think this would be an excellent change to the committee or even public hearing process.
