I am writing due to my concern for ever increasing food and fuel prices in this country. The special interest groups, lobbyists and others who currently have employment (such as the person/persons reading this) apparently have become out of touch with the fast majority of Americans who are struggling to make ends meet daily – not just week to week.
Our company provides services to the senior citizen community who are for the most part in our area are on fixed incomes. Fixed meaning that as food and fuel prices continue to go up they have to cut back on necessary supplies, like medication. However, they usually will cut their food purchases as well instead of paying more than $3.50 for a lousy gallon of gasoline.
The trickledown in our industry is multi-fold. If they can’t afford to pay for the very basic of needs they certainly don’t need and can’t afford in-home care that’s privately paid for! That means fewer clients for us no need to hire new employees. We have decreased the number of hours for our current caregivers, who were already part-time so that we can put as many as possible to work, even if the hours are minimal. They don’t work, we don’t get paid----no pay----no income----business goes under.
Please, take control of speculators – they’re killing us financially! Manipulation of commodities needs to have strict guidelines on limits and please, lobbyists are doing what THEY ARE PAID TO DO – lobby for the special interest groups, who’s special interests are their own and only manage to manipulate the system for their own gain.
