I support strong financial regulation in the wake of the 2008 Financial Crisis. I am against broadening the end user exception (beyond that already allowed in the legislation to airlines and farmers).
I support transparency, especially needed in my view for the "shadow banking" industry. A lack of regulation and loopholes in the past contributed to the crisis. Thus, I support clear, strong, transparent regulation of markets as a "novel" approach. If down the road it appears that the regulation has been excessive, it can be relaxed gradually in the future. We first need to demonstrate to the financial institutions that we are serious when it comes to regulating our markets. This will also give time for financial institutions to show that they can function responsibly, before they are given too many ways to avoid playing by the rules.
