I have personally found prediction markets and event contracts to be incredibly useful, both for getting a sense of accuracy for what is occuring in the world and for improving my own epistemic accuracy. I think they are a substantial improvement over the tendency for ungrounded opinions that infects our public discourse, and introducing a monetary incentive only improves the likelihood of accurate information, a goal that we as a society should strive for. I am not against any regulation of events contracts, but find them to be a large net positive and think any regulation should be much more specifically targeted than the current rule proposal.
