I am commenting to state my opposition against the proposed ban on event prediction markets, which play a crucial role in ethical decision-making and policy analysis. As an ethics researcher based in Arizona, I could utilize Kalshi's prediction markets to assess public perceptions and predict ethical implications of policy decisions across various sectors.These markets could provide valuable data for evaluating the potential ethical consequences of regulatory changes and corporate practices.
The proposed ban undermines transparency and restricts access to critical data sources essential for advancing ethical discourse and informed policymaking. Instead of prohibition, I urge the Commission to extend the comment period further and collaborate with academics, researchers and stakeholders to develop regulatory frameworks that uphold ethical standards, promote accountability, and support informed decision-making.
