Prediction markets like PredictIt form a very valuable educational and civic purpose. One need only look at the current news to see how PredictIt is providing a way to aggregate large amounts of information on which candidates in the Democratic Party might be viable should Biden withdraw.
Governments could gain a great deal of useful information about pandemic risks, nuclear risks, etc. if these markets are properly regulated and allowed to function with useful amounts of liquidity. We have seen that if CFTC shuts them down, they will move overseas and use currencies like Bitcoin. Better they should remain in the light and with the full faith and credit that proper regulation will allow.
