As a high school economics teacher in Texas, I emphasize the interplay between politics and the economy. Kalshi's election prediction markets could provide students with concrete examples of how political outcomes influence economic trends. This real-time data would enhance their understanding of market dynamics and political risk. For example, we could analyze how election results affect stock markets, commodity prices, and employment rates, making abstract concepts tangible.

This proposal by the CFTC to ban such contracts undermines educational opportunities and stifles critical thinking about political risk and market dynamics. We need more data and transparency, not less. The ability to use real-world data in the classroom helps prepare students for future careers in business, government, and beyond. It encourages them to stay informed and engaged with the political process. The ban on these markets limits our ability to offer a robust and interactive civics education that is vital for the future of our students.
