Dear CFTC,
I am writing to you as a Kansas resident who has grown up around agriculture my entire life. The impact of political decisions on trade tariffs and agricultural subsidies, especially in my specialty of trade, cannot be overstated. Kalshi’s election prediction markets would enable us to prepare for these potential changes. The CFTC’s ban on these markets is a mistake. Accurate data on election outcomes is crucial for making informed decisions about crop planting and market timing. Wheat prices are particularly sensitive to international trade agreements. Being able to anticipate political shifts would help us manage our production and sales more effectively. This is about securing our future and ensuring the sustainability of our farming operations in a volatile political environment.
I ask the CFTC to reconsider this proposal and to extend the comment period to an additional 60 days to allow for more comments to raise concerns.
Thank you,
Benjamin
