I think that removing the ability to bet on political events is just plain silly. With reasonable limits why can Europeans bet on our political markets but we as Americans, supposedly the bastions of Freedom and Democracy throughout the globe unable to make choices on what to do with our own money. We can hand politicians billions through super PACs and corporate donors who stand to gain billions in government handouts and tax incentives but when I bet $500 on a political race for fun and without any skin in the game otherwise I’m the one they’re trying to crack down on? Cmon CFTC, force the political betting sites to put some legalese banning insiders and limit the betting to something reasonable (hint: $500 isn’t reasonable) and stop trying to take away my liberties to allocate my capital to something I’m interested in.
