I oppose rules that would shut down PredictIt.org and similar predictive betting sites. In an era when the validity of public opinion polling is being questioned and when political punditry runs rampant (often completely detached from facts and reality), having another predictive source of information about political outcomes, one that is derived from a completely different set of principles than polls (i.e. that markets are better predictors of the future than people saying what they'll do later when they can easily change their minds), is important. The CFTC should not limit or eliminate this source of collective political insight by expanding the nanny state. Fortunes are not made or lost on PredictIt.org. However, valuable political insight is generated for the public good.
