I urge you to deny the proposal your agency is currently considering that would permit a private company to accept bets on the outcome of elections. Allowing betting on the outcomes of elections will encourage election interference, abuse of election officials, and other misconduct to maximize people's winnings. It would also lead to more conspiracy theories, lies, and, perhaps the worst of all, harassment directed at election officials. It would also promote a team spectator sport mentality where people are more concerned with their side winning at any cost than learning about policy and engaging with their community for the greater good, as should occur in any well-functioning democracy.
Please reject this proposal to allow betting on election results. Thank you for your consideration.
