I am totally against the proposal to allow gambling and betting on elections for the following reasons:
1) Allowing this proposal will undermine the integrity of our elections and our democracy.
2) Allowing betting on election outcomes will create strong financial incentives for special interests to manipulate and interfere in our elections, just like they already do in other areas of gambling.
3) Allowing this proposal will reduce voter confidence, and lead to a perception that election outcomes are not solely determined by voters’ choices, but also by those who bet on election results. This will accentuate the already existing "horse-race" reporting on campaign finance-raising and polling numbers
4) Allowing this proposal puts personal gain ahead of the public interest.
5) Allowing this proposal undermines the principle of one person, one vote--the bedrock of our democracy.
For all these reasons, please reject this proposal.
