Betting on elections reduces what should be a patriotic endeavor to an event that can be manipulated and besmirched by greed and opportunism. It falls into the same category as betting on the outcome of a critical operation, or the longevity of a soldier in combat, or honoring a marriage contract. Who wins when you bet against such events?
