In our democracy, the principle of one man/one vote is a bedrock. In my lifetime, I've seen the strength of this principle increase and decrease. I've cheered the increases and mourned the decreases. The decreases seem often to follow increases of money into the political process, and the process of allowing this proposal would open a floodgate of money. Betting on election outcomes is neither new nor foreign. History records bought elections from early times and in most cultures, only a tiny number of which have professed to be, striven to be democratic. I cheer our continuing experiment to establish and maintain a democracy, governed by rule of law. I deplore this proposal to sanction another attempt to intrude money into the election process.
