Betting on elections encourages voting for the wrong reasons: to (maybe) make money, rather than to actually elect public officials. This is true fraudulence. It makes the ballot box into a gambling hall.
Elections should be sacred. Democracy is dependent on mature, responsible adults who actually care how our country fares and cast votes for those who they think will do the best job at running it. It is not a lottery or a game.
People have always bet on anything; but the CFTC should discourage any attempts to make organized gambling on the outcome of elections illegal.
