The unregulated derivatives market has been a disaster for the US and world economy and must be reined in. Otherwise the US economy is just waiting for the next financial meltdown which will probably be even more severe than the last. The credibility of regulators such as the CFTC depends on their ability to protect the public from the consequences of such dangerous and unscrupulous activity - a second meltdown for the same reasons will destroy whatever remains of public confidence in the CFTC.
