I am not only a citizen of the United States, but a mother of two girls in college, who juggles duties to take care of a household and manage the office of her husband's small business. I just do not understand why the price of gas continues to rise, drops back a little (where we all say "thank God" and "it's about time"), then inches even higher. Do the people connected with the oil industry really believe that we as consumers do not notice this? Do they really think we will be complacent when the price of gas recedes a little? Thinking we won't notice as much the next increase? These costs do not just effect our gas tank budgets! We have felt this impact not only through rising grocery store prices, but also increases in our home heating oil, trash pick-up, and as a small business: we have endured shipping surcharges, and a 10% increase across the board for our materials purchased to service our clients, not to mention the increase in ODJFS! Something has got to give! We are trying to live "the American Dream": work hard, educate our children, and hopefully live out the rest of our lives without being on welfare. It sad to look around and see that foreigners and those born into dire circumstances have better opportunities to achieve the "American Dream" than the average middle-class family that happens to be the backbone of our country and seems to be fading fast! I urge you to act on our behalf, to get some handle on the price of oil, because if nothing is done, I am afraid that this avalanche of increases on the American public due to the increases in oil may bury us. Thank you for the opportunity to be heard. Sincere regards, Rebecca Crookshanks
