    Comment Text:

I am Fred Vassie, and am a retired U.S. Government employee after nearly 35 years of service to my country, a number of those years given as military service as well. Being retired I live in an area where one must depend on private transportation to take care of virtually all aspects of life. My small pension continues to dwindle because of higher cost of living for basic necessities. It makes no sense for a regulatory agency to allow companies, particularly financial companies that caused the world wide recession, to do the same sort of gambling all over against the public interest. Your agency needs to curb these institutions in the public interest instead of awarding them more freedom to feed their greedy ways. Do what's right for the citizenry of this country rather than cause more hard to untold thousands all over again!

I urge you to curb excessive gambling in commodities markets like food and oil.

While many factors contribute to today’s highly volatile commodity prices, it is clear that excessive speculation is partially responsible, as shown in dozens of studies by respected institutions such as Princeton, MIT, Petersen Institute, University of London, Yale, the United Nations and the U.S. Senate.

Speculation thus imposes financial hardships on families around the country. Sudden rises in gas and food prices force us to make difficult decisions and sacrifices. Especially right now, with so many families struggling, and unemployment barely beginning to decrease, we cannot allow speculators to unduly affect our food and gas prices.

Please put in place effective position limits rules, and do not allow them to be undermined by exemptions or exceptions, or allow Wall Street gamblers to escape them.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Sincerely,
    Fred Vassie
    Concerned American Citizen
