Worldwide and in the UK we are suffering from increasing fuel costs.
The price of foodstuffs is also increasing and this seems to be akin to those of a couple of years ago.
I call on you to bring in the strictest regulation and standards, most especially in terms of limits which have been proposed in terms of speculators. In this way the disastrous accumulation of dominating market share which appears to contribute to gambling and price hikes that effect us all.
I appreciate that in some situations exemptions may be needed, but these should be to help those for whom the whole business was originally conceived- those directly involved in the production of uncertain products such as foods. In NO way should businesses and individuals be able to speculate where they have no "dirty hands" involvement. I'm thinking of financial institutions such as Investment Banks, and hedge funds.
I also appreciate that I am not a US citizen and do not live in the USA, but we are all members of the same global community and prices in one area effect us all. It has been suggested to me that the riots in Egypt were in part brought on by the pressure of high food prices.
Here in the UK people are campaigning to encourage our government to follow the lead which we hear is coming form the USA and France in reining in the unbridled speculation by those whose primary goal is to make money from trading in commodities for which they no use and which they never touch. Please do all you can to make sure that the US lead is reinforced so that Banks, Funds and other financial bodies turn from the distracting feeding frenzy of gambling in commodities and instead use their funds to support investment in solid businesses that will provide real jobs and rebuild our economies.
Thank you for giving this petition your consideration. I look forward to hearing of your decisions
