As a citizen of the UK, I welcome the Commission's efforts to implement the Dodd-Frank Act thoroughly and, in particular, the reforms aimed at limiting speculation in food commodities.
Here in the UK, we are working to persuade both the UK government and the European Commission to enact and implement similar rules, so the effective implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act is part of a crucial global change in regulation. These rules are essential in limiting speculation, which is effectively a form of gambling on the price of food, serving no useful social purpose and harming millions of people in poorer countries.
