Let us take a lesson from our history. It was illegal for Corporate Officers to own shares and receive bonuses from the companies they oversaw/ran. 40+ years later and the owners of most of the stocks in a company belong to the top executives and members of the Board of Directors. Thus making it profitable for the Board Members and High Level Executives to make decisions that increase profits in the short term. This is a recipe for disaster.

To correct this problem, we need to make it illegal with stiff penalties, financial and subject to time in prison, to own stock or stock options in a company that you are a Board Member or a high level executive. And we need to insure that the laws are strongly enforced.
