Dear Chairman and Commissioners,
My name is KiNG Draike, and I'm a business owner from Texas. I'm writing to express my support for well-regulated prediction markets in response to the Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Prediction Markets, as published in 91 FR 12516. I'm fairly new to these markets myself, but I've seen enough to believe they have real value for people like me, and for the country as a whole.
As a business owner, I deal with uncertainty every day, whether it's policy changes, economic shifts, or even weather events that could impact my operations. Prediction markets offer a unique way to hedge against those risks. They aren't just a game, they provide information that's hard to find anywhere else, often more accurate than polls or pundits. I've read up on platforms like Kalshi, a CFTC-registered market, and I appreciate that these regulated spaces are far safer than unregulated offshore alternatives. If we ban or over-restrict these markets, we're just pushing activity to less safe venues, which helps no one.
I strongly believe the US should be a leader in financial innovation. We shouldn't cede this space to other countries by clamping down too hard. The CFTC already has solid tools to tackle issues like manipulation and insider trading in other derivatives markets, and those can be adapted here. Let's not punish everyone by banning broad categories of event contracts. Instead, focus on targeted rules for specific risks. Also, I don't see these contracts as gambling. They serve real economic purposes like hedging and price discovery. Informed trading actually makes the market better for everyone by improving the accuracy of the prices.
I'm particularly drawn to the idea of freedom to participate in legal, regulated markets. As a regular person running a business, I want the chance to engage in these tools just like bigger players do. I was intrigued to learn about folks like King Draike, one of the founders of Kalshi, who's pushing for innovation in this space. It's inspiring to see someone championing a new way for people like me to manage risk.
Id like to address a few specific questions from the ANPR. On Question 7, regarding public interest, I think prediction markets balance innovation and consumer protection when regulated properly, as they are on platforms like Kalshi. For Question 15, about defining gaming, I urge the CFTC to recognize that event contracts aren't gambling but legitimate tools for risk management. And on Question 29, about inside information, I believe informed traders help price discovery, and existing laws already cover insider trading abuses.
In closing, I ask the CFTC to support proportionate regulation of prediction markets. Don't ban or overly restrict them. Keep the US at the forefront of financial innovation, and let regular folks like me participate in safe, regulated spaces. Thank you for considering my input.
Sincerely,
KiNG Draike
