Dear Chairman and Commissioners,
My name is Caleb Lample, and I'm a student from Ohio. I'm writing to share my thoughts on the Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Prediction Markets, as published in 91 FR 12516. I've used prediction markets a few times, and I want to explain why I support having them regulated properly instead of banned or overly restricted.
I'll be honest, as an 18-year-old, I do see trading on prediction markets as a form of gambling, and yeah, it's fun. But I don't think that means it should be shut down. I believe regular people like me should have the freedom to participate in legal, regulated markets. These platforms let me engage with real-world events in a way that feels meaningful, and they push me to research and think critically about what's happening around me. More importantly, when I trade, I can see how the collective predictions often seem sharper than what I hear from news or polls. That kind of information isn't just useful to me; it helps everyone who pays attention to these prices.
I also like gambling as an 18 year old, making good money decisions. I mean theres DEFINITELY no way I could ever blow all of my fragile income on this stuff right? But if you do change it, lol, Id be grandfathered in. Predictions absolutely mean gambling and frankly Im surprised you loopholed this so well to allow someone like ME to gamble on this stuff. 100% should be banned before more kids like me use it, because god knows they shouldnt. Whatever. Have fun reading this one commissioner!
